“'Girls’ Generation My Own Stamps’ are stamps that the Korean Post directly contracted and [Girls' Generation a.k.a.So Nyeo Shi Dae] will be the first Korean celebrity postage stamps; for taking an active role in bringing the K-Pop fever all over the world, SNSD was chosen as the models.” - Korean Post
The stamps were issued to commemorate Girls' Generation's fifth anniversary; the 14-stamps set have all nine members’ individual autographed pictures from their album 'The Boys', including five of Girls' Generation’s album covers. More than 600 sheets out of the 1,200 available were sold in the first hour it was released on 8th August 2012.
"According to the agency behind the stamps, the SNSD stamps began being sold on August 9 on a consignment basis in 56 of Korea’s post offices as well as at the ‘Korean Postage Stamps Exhibition’ from August 9 through 13 at Seoul’s Coex. Due to the high interest in the stamps, an individual can only purchase two per person. The agency added that a portion of the profits from the SNSD stamp sales will go to the charity foundation, Merry Year." - MWave news
